We had a beautiful late summer day at Woodland Park to meet with our knitting and talk about whatever we were doing — whether it revolved around knitting or it didn’t. We missed Francy, Marylane, Joan and Julie and hope to see them next time. Joan will be heading back to Arizona soon. Seems like we didn’t get to see her a lot this summer!
Last time, I mistakenly called the project that Leslie and Michele were working on ‘skirts.’ Boy, was I wrong. They’re both working on sweater vests! Sweater Vests! Leslie knit one for her granddaughter, Grace. It’s made with bulky yarn and is quick, quick, quick. I love the button that Leslie chose.
Michele is making one for herself, not orange though. I hope she has a chance to show it to us soon.
Leslie is now knitting a pair of beaded, fingerless mittens. This is a pattern that Carol has used in the past. It would be a good pattern for beginners who want add beads while they knit, I think. I’ve never done it, of course, but Carol and Leslie say it’s a not-so-hard pattern.
Carol is also knitting fingerless mittens, but a different pattern. Hers is one that Marylane has used. We love to pass around patterns and have out own unique experiences with color and size. Fun.
That purple thing next to Leslie’s sweater is a purse that I’m knitting for one of my great-nieces. It’s an interesting pattern – straps and tassels are knit in one piece, then the flap is added and the whole thing is felted. I think I’ll knit two of them. I just bought a different pattern for a felted bag, so I’ll mix it up a little for Christmas presents for my four great-nieces. Fun and quick.
I also finished my ‘Wingspan’ scarf and I really like it. Now I just need to find a scarf pin that I like…
Mary was home from Denver where she and Frank helped their son get settled into his new house. And of course she got some Moses Time with her grandson. She’s working on another top for her granddaughter, Aurora. It’s the same pattern as the last one that she knit, but with variegated yarn. Very cute.
Linda joined us and pulled needles with a new cast-on edge out of her bag.
“What’s that?” I said.
“A wavy scarf like one that Michelle made.” She said.
“Oh, so you finished your drop-stitch scarf?” I asked.
“Well, no…I like to start new projects, but I don’t like finishing them.”
We all laughed. We know exactly what she means. At least, I do. I have five – yes, five – unfinished projects languishing at home beside my recliner. I am actively working on two of them, however, so I don’t really count those. So three — three unfinished projects waiting for my attention. And I’d start a new one in a flash. Anyway, here is the new and the old of Linda’s scarves.
Midway through our conversation, Linda and I got distracted by our colorful toenails. Maybe that’s why we never finish things – too easily distracted.
Last week, I forgot to put in a couple of photos that Francy had sent me, so here they are. The first one is a felted purse for her sister. I posted the ‘before’ and ‘during’ photos of it for a few weeks on the blog. The second is of an adorable hat that she made for one of her grandchildren. Cute, cute, cute.
Well, Castoffs, we’ll try the park as long as we can. The weather is beginning to be more unreliable, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed that we can meet in Woodland Park throughout the month of September. If the weather is bad, come on over to my house, where we’ll be warm and dry. Until then, keep those needles blazing and enjoy the coming fall.
