Knitting at Deb’s house – April 18, 2013

The sun was trying to break through the clouds when we met at Deb’s house. Her Yorkie, Izzy, wandered around looking at our knitting projects until she found a good spot to enjoy the sun.

Will spring EVER get here?

I know just how you feel, Izzy! One day sunshine and semi-warm temperatures, and the next day snow. This morning as I write this blog, we have snow falling and about two inches of the white stuff on the ground. It isn’t sticking to the streets, though, so that’s one saving grace.

Mary was back from her travels to Hawaii – no, we aren’t jealous at all – and was wearing her socks that she knit in between baby projects. They look great and they even FIT. I’m in awe. Perhaps some day I’ll try some more socks… maybe.

Very nice socks, Mary.

Mary also brought along the hoodie sweaters that she’s knitting for her grandchildren. They have little ears on the hoods. Cute. The blue one is for Moses and the pink one for Aurora. Mary will be traveling down to see Moses for the next few weeks, so it was good to see her, even if briefly.

Not sewn up yet, but you can see the little ears for the hood.

Aurora’s sweater has just been started.

Speaking of grandchildren, Francy is working on another sweater for Grace. This is a top-down pullover. Soon, Francy’s going to have two more babies to knit for. Both her daughter, Betsy,  and daughter-in-law Heidi are due this summer and fall. Wow. Her needles will be blazing, won’t they?

Colorful pullover for Grace!

I don’t have any grandchildren, but I do have a young cousin who is expecting her baby at any time.  I decided to knit her a little sweater. “What are her colors?” I asked Louise’s mother. “Green and purple,” she said. That’s a very popular combination right now for babies. Linda is looking for a baby project for her niece in the same colors. I chose a spring green, and plan to sew little purple elephant buttons on the front.

A simple kimono.

Deb is still working on her sweater – coming along very well. It’s always fun to see how much, or how little, we all get done in a week.

Not too sure about the look on Deb’s face, but I love the sweater.

We had a lot of fun catching up. I hadn’t seen Mary or Carol in nearly a month – not since we finished the chair. It’s a busy time of year – lots of travel, individual interests and work. Even though we aren’t always together as a big group every week, it’s wonderful to know that if we can drop in, there are always friendly faces waiting to say hello and share knitting, and a story or two.

Typical Castoffs; knitting, texting, looking for the next project.

Carol came in like Frankenstein’s monster, stiff-legged and stiff-necked. She woke up with a pain in the neck — and I don’t mean her sweet husband, Mark — and had just come from the chiropractor. By the end of the meeting, she was moving her head a little better. Looking down at her knitting wouldn’t have felt good, so she didn’t bring anything to work on. We were glad to hear that her daughter, Shannon, will be back this summer. It’ll be great to see her again.

Well, Castoffs, we meet at Linda’s house next time. Keep those needles blazing and try to keep warm. The snow must stop SOMETIME!
