Knitting at Linda’s house – April 25, 2013

We met at Linda’s house on a brilliantly sunny, windy day. Spring is blowing in from the west at an alarming rate. When I got out of the car, my hair blew straight up. Whoosh! Linda served us some chips and dip, nuts and wine. Thanks, Linda!

Pretty flowers. Good eats.

We are currently discussing whether or not to change the day of the week that we meet. After many suggestions and opinions, we tabled the discussion until later in May when we’ll meet at Mary’s, and hopefully we’ll have more of a quorum. In other words, we didn’t make a decision, although those of us at this meeting were leaning toward keeping the day the same for now.

Marylane is knitting some fingerless mittens in a multicolored yarn. I always think that these are like toeless, heelless socks. Since toes and heels are the hardest part of a sock, I find fingerless mitts to be easy to knit. Perhaps, I’m just easing into making socks when I say this, but Marylane can really whip these out. They’re pretty, too, and I like to wear them as driving gloves in the winter.

Julie will be leaving at the latter part of next week to visit her mom in Wisconsin for 10 days. She wants to host our meeting next week before she goes. Okay, Jules, we’ll be there. Julie is knitting a pillow covering for her mother — to take with her, I’m thinking. I like the cable pattern.

White pillow wouldn’t work in my careless household, but I’m sure Julie’s mom is a lot neater.

Deb joined us and had a lot of good suggestions about our meeting day dilemma. I didn’t get a photo because I don’t think she pulled out her sweater that she’s working on. She was excited about an upcoming trip to Hawaii! Yay! Condo on the beach! I know that she and Glen will have fun.

Linda hasn’t decided on a project, yet, for her niece’s baby. I am busily knitting away on my cousin’s present. This kimono is knit in one piece (supposedly). I’m at a point where I have to cast on the front and join it to a section that I’ve already knitted. That’s not exactly knitting it in one piece, but I’ll see how it goes. I don’t knit very many baby things, so this is new territory. It’s all garter stitch, so I can’t complain too much.

Carol joined us (without knitting) and gave her opinion of our prospective date change. She brought her little knitted dog that is still in pieces, but didn’t take him out of the bag. Next time, someone will help her with sewing the pieces together. We promise, Carol. I had to get a photo of her anyway – she’s so cute.

Happy Carol! Her neck is much better.

That was it for this meeting. We’re at Julie’s house next time. Seems like spring could be in full bloom. I worked in my garden this week and if the wind would stop blowing at gale force, I’d get my bike out for its inaugural ride of the season. Maybe this week! In any case, Castoffs, keep those needles blazing and knit up a storm.
