Knitting at Marsha’s house – April 11, 2013

I knew it would be a small group at knitting today. Several people are still out of town, and a couple had told me that they wouldn’t be here, so I was pleasantly surprised to see my friends trickle in. I cut up some veggies and bought yummy dip. Also had to have my latest obsession – Goldfish!

Veggies, Goldfish and wine. What more do you need?

First, Francy came in, fresh from her trip to Kalamazoo to see her daughter Betsy and granddaughter Grace. Francy pulled out the sweater that she’s knitting for Grace. She got the pattern for free, but the cable pattern for the front of the sweater cost $6! She wasn’t happy with it, so I showed her an old book of patterns that I’ve had for years. She found a couple of cable patterns that could be used. Imagine. Giving the sweater pattern away and selling the separate cable pattern. Grrr. We agreed that was excessive.

Julie came in. She and I were the only ones who could get together last week, so we just chatted, drank wine and didn’t even bother knitting. She’s knitting a pair of socks. Julie? How many pairs of socks have you knitted? Seems like whenever there’s a lull in your knitting plans, you pull out a pair of socks. Is it the same pair? I don’t think so, but thought I’d ask.

Julie’s sock.

It was good to see Deb again – I hadn’t seen her since we met at her house a month ago. Wow. A whole month. I haven’t seen Marylane since then either; or Leslie, or Mary. I miss my knitting buddettes! Anyway, Deb has come a long way on her sweater that she’s knitting for herself. It’s a beautiful color and a quite intricate pattern.

Proud knitter, beautiful sweater.

I was seaming up the inner sole of Eli’s felted slipper, preparing to make the outer sole. Geez, these slippers look ENORMOUS before they’re felted down. It seems like they’ll never be small enought to fit a normal sized foot – even when they’re in the middle of the felting process. I have faith though, because I’ve made a pair before and I know the hot water and agitation will do the trick.

Linda joined us. I was happy to see her and I knew that she was in between projects (like Julie) because she pulled out THE PRAYER SHAWL. Yes, she’s still plugging away on that same prayer shawl. I understand. I have my easy but boring, go-to projects in between the ones that I’m more passionate about. One of these days, however, she’ll walk in with a finished prayer shawl and we just might miss it after its gone. Or not.

Yes… it’s the prayer shawl.

We had a great time catching up. We were a small but mighty group. Next time, we meet at Deb’s house, hopefully in more springlike weather. We seem to have had a return to snow and cold temperatures and WE DON’T LIKE IT! At least I don’t. Anyway, Castoffs, until I see you at Deb’s house, keep those needles blazing and don’t put away your winter clothes yet.
