Julie’s house – August 4, 2011

A small group of Castoffs met at Julie’s house on a hot, windy day.  We sat outside Julie’s new French doors on a newly made patio area.  Very pleasant.  Julie surrounded us with big umbrellas to keep the sun away.

We ate the best cake – yum!  It had fresh raspberries on top of frosting.  The frosting and berries were so good, I can’t even remember what flavor the cake part was.  We also had some crunchies and some fresh cherries.  Tis the season in the Flathead for cherries!

Yum, yum. Fresh fruit rules!

As you can see from the photo, we had a little knitter, Grace, Leslie’s granddaughter.  She was a delight and has been hanging around her gran long enough to pick up a habit or two.

LITTLE KNITTER GRACE!

She was adorable and her knitting’s not half bad.  Don’t know what she’s working on, just practice for now.  I’m so glad that Leslie is passing on the passion.

Grace also liked the snacks that Julie provided.  She was such a polite, darling little girl!  We’re glad that Leslie brought her along for us to meet.

Not sure what Grace liked best - the cake or the knitting.

Mary was back from her fabulous trip to Alaska and regaled us with stories about kayaking with whales.  Sounds like she had a great time with the family.  And it sounds like Frank was surprised…after all the worry and intrigue that Mary and her kids went through.

Julie paying close attention to the tales from Alaska.

As I said, it was a windy day and when a big gust blew one of the umbrellas away, we all thought that Julie would go with it.  At first, she was reluctant to put down her wine glass, but she realized that the umbrella might end up in Idaho, so she went for it.

Click your heels together, Dorothy, and repeat after me..."There's no place like home."

Julie was still working on her second market bag.  She decided to make it a little smaller, but it still could double as a shower cap.

...or it could keep your hair tidy when the umbrella carries you away.

Mary is coming along with her sock.  Well, it’s a relative ‘coming along’ but seeing as how she didn’t work on it in Alaska, it’s not too bad.  Unfortunately, she’ll have a lot of time to work on it while she’s laid up with her new hip.  Our Mary goes under the knife (ouch) next week, but I know she’ll be kayaking again before we know it.  We’ll come visit you, Mary!

The SOCK is coming right along.

I am still working on my blue vest – at the armholes in the back and working my way up.  The wind was driving my allergies wild – hey, that’s my excuse for the awful photo, and I’m sticking to it!

I really like the color and the Tonic yarn is easy to work with.

Deb was halfway to Julie’s house with an important knitting question in mind when she realized that she had left her knitting at home.  Oops.  She came along without it and joined us for a glass of wine.  There’s always next week at Joan’s house, Deb.  I caught her as she was leaving in Julie’s new doorway.

You sexy thang, you!

It was a lazy, summer day and although we didn’t get much knitting done, we had a lot of fun.  As usual!  Thanks, Julie for hosting us.  We loved your umbrella-surrounded patio.  And the CAKE.  And the CHERRIES!

Next week, we meet at Joan’s house.  It could be another small group, but that’s OK.   It’s easier to hear each other that way!  Until then, keep those needles blazing and have wonderful fun in the summer sun.
