We were warned that Michele was going to bake cookies instead of mow her back lawn where we were to meet, so we all came armed with long-legged chairs (except for Leslie who brought her stadium seat).
We were surprised (well, not really, knowing Michele) to find that she did BOTH! Short grass and great cookies. Thanks, Michele! AND sliced watermelon. AND delicious dip with chips. Whew. That Michele never seems to rest.
Michele has been busy painting and helping her husband, Joel, build a front awning over their steps. The porch turned out great! Wonderful architectural addition to the house. We all admired it mightily.
I brought my recliner deck chair because my philosophy is to be comfortable in everything I do – or don’t do.
Francy came with Betsy and baby Grace. I didn’t think Marylane would let go of her to give the rest of us a crack at being surrogate grannies.
Grace really is the sweetest baby. We all mused about next year on their visit to Montana. Will Grace be running wildly around – a typical “terrible two” or will she still be as adorably even-tempered? Can’t wait to find out!
Leslie loves her asymmetrical shawl so much that she is making another in a different color. She is using Malabrigo yarn and really likes it. It comes in several different weights. Hers came from the yarn store in Whitefish, the Knit N Needle Yarn Shoppe where I have found great Berrocco yarns. Perhaps a road trip is in order?
Believe it or not, Betsy has somehow found time to crochet the first of two booties for a friend’s soon-to-be-born baby. It’s adorable and will work well for either a boy or a girl. Linda held it up for us to admire.
Julie finished her market bag for a friend’s bridal shower (tonight!) and is starting on another one. She had some initial problems with the faggoting stitch, but worked through it and the bag turned out beautifully. She used Cascade Sierra Quatro yarn. Very pretty, Jules.
Michele was trying to entice Grace with her tea while Bebe Francy looked on. Marylane finally relinquished the baby to her sister Joan. I think it was difficult to think about knitting with the beautiful day and the beautiful baby to enjoy.
Michele did knit a little on her blue sweater. She’s still working on the coral sweater for her daughter, but is at a tricky place and didn’t want to risk goofing up by not being able to pay attention. I’ve mentioned before that it’s easy to goof on a hard pattern in the midst of all our chatter and laughter. Nobody wants to miss anything, after all.
Francy and I are still working on the same projects. It’s hard to carve out a good time to knit in a day filled with summertime fun. Francy is working on a Christmas stocking for her daughter-in-law and I’m still working on my Kindle cover (which is really going to be a journal cover).
This was a good time with good friends and good weather. Thanks to Michele for having us over to enjoy the back yard. We watched the horses next door run around their meadow and even saw a deer try to sneak into Michele’s garden next to the yard. Ahhh! Summer. So short, but so wonderful.
Next week we’ll meet at Julie’s house. Until then, keep those needles blazing and have a great time outdoors in the sunshine.
