Marsha’s house – August 12, 2010

We all gathered here at my house on a cloudy day.  We had to meet indoors instead of on my deck and it’s a good thing, because we had rainstorms all evening.  I made little key lime tartlets and Eli made some great salsa that we served with corn chips.  Lisa came late and brought the most delicious chocolate cupcakes with a truffle filling.  We drank wine and iced tea and ate very well.

Snacks with wine are the most important meal of the day

Lisa brought a basket of the most excellent cupcakes!

Francy is still working on her felted tote and plans to be finished by next week.  She is going to felt it at Leslie’s house.  Support is very important when felting.

I am, at this posting, just finished with my green scarf.  I only had a few rows to go when we had our meeting.  It turned out well and I think I’ll be happy wearing it.

Green scarf/shawl turned out to be a scarf

Julie is knitting a shawl to wear to work in the library basement.  I used to work at the County library, so I know that the temperature can be goofy – up and down.  I like the colors in this shawl and you can just see the pattern beside Jules.

Leslie started on a crocheted scarf in four wonderful yarns – all different textures.  The stitch is open and looks woven.  Can’t wait to see how it progresses…

Hey, Les! That's quite a right hook you've got!

I can’t remember exactly what Leslie and Carol were discussing, but it looks pretty intense.  Carol has started a dance school in Columbia Falls that sounds amazing – all about storybook dancing for tiny dancers.  Maybe Leslie wants to join up…

What do you mean I can't be Cinderella?

Joan has started on her puppet washcloths for her granddaughter.  This will be loosely patterned on one in the ‘Stitch ‘n’ Bitch Nation’ but with Joan’s own “knit-only” speciality.  I am planning to attempt the actual pattern, so we can compare them later.

Michele is making dishcloths out of a multicolor cotton yarn.  This has really been the summer of the dishcloth for the Castoffs.  Good old mindless dishcloth knitting.  Michele has been painting, painting, painting her house inside and out, so she doesn’t need anything complicated to do in her leisure time.

Thinkin' about paintin' not about knittin'

We missed Mary, Linda and Deb this week and didn’t see Marylane until we were almost ready to go home.  She had emailed me to tell me to save her some wine, so I did.  As if we would drink it all before she got here…well, maybe she was wise to email me.

Next week we’ll meet at Leslie’s house.  All of the teachers in the group are cherishing their last two weeks before school starts.  We old retirees will keep on hiking.  Until we meet at Leslie’s, keep those needles blazing!
