Leslie’s house – August 19, 2010

We met at Leslie’s house on a hot end-of-summer day.  The teachers among us go back to work next week and there was a whole lot of groaning going on.  But Leslie had pound cake with fresh fruit and whipped cream and wine for us, so that made the thought of work a little less painful.

Lovely refreshments

I finished my green triangular scarf and everyone who picked it up was immediately whisked to babushkaland, or somewhere like it.

Welcome to the casbah

Leslievna from Minsk

Blonde babushka baby

At any rate, it’s finished and I’ll wait until later in the fall to see how I’ll wear it.  All I could hear in my head was “Marsha Lee!  You put a headscarf on if you’re going out in that wind!”  Okay, Mama.  I am working on a scarf now that is much simpler than the two projects I recently finished.  The yarn is Berrocco Origami, a stiffer yarn but a really pretty blend of colors.  I like the chevron pattern.

Yes, another scarf

Mary was back from her travels and has finished a cute little fleece baby hat for her friend’s baby.  It is sooo soft and cuddly.

The softest fleece yarn !

Mary bought some alpaca yarn while she was in Oregon to make hats for her kids.  Another soft yarn.  Sorry I didn’t get a photo, but I’m sure we’ll see more of it in the future.

Winter must be poking its ugly head around the corner, because Michele was knitting mittens to be felted for the IT guy at the Middle School.  A little bribery, Michele?  Well, nothing wrong with getting a head start on the school year.

Gotta love those pointy sticks!

Julie joined us and is making a…dishcloth!  Where’s that table runner, Jules?  She’s using up odds and ends of cotton yarn.  That’s a good girl.

Dishcloth!!

Deb is almost finished with her navy scarf!  Yeah, yeah, you’ve heard that before in this blog, but this time she really means it…really!  Next week she will put on fringe and then it will be FINISHED!

Uh, I think it's long enough, Deb

Deb and I didn’t get a lot of knitting done because we were talking about our favorite thing to do around here in the summertime…hiking.  We have both hiked a lot this summer, but there are always more fabulous place to go – and that’s just in Glacier Park.  Never mind all the great hikes outside of the park.  Ah.  I’m sorry to see the days grow shorter.  Just means shorter hikes, though.

Carol is almost – really – finished with the yellow afghan for her second grandbaby in Alaska.  She was doing the border at the meeting.  Very pretty, Carol!

Butter

Leslie is trying to decide on a shawl pattern using four yarns with different textures and colors.  She had those little grey cells working and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.  Francy and Marylane couldn’t be with us and we missed them.  They are both working on sweaters and it will be fun to see how far they’ve come next time.

We will meet at Linda’s new condo next week.  Last time I saw it, it was mostly empty except for stacks of boxes.  I look forward to seeing what she’s done with her new space.

I’ll leave you with a photo of Julie, Linda and Michele getting serious about eating the great treats that Leslie made us.  Thank you, Leslie!  Keep those grey cells churning and keep those needles blazing!

First, food. Then, knit.
