The Castoffs met at Leslie’s house and we were a very noisy group. We often are, though, so no big surprise. Leslie served us a sweet corn salsa with chips and wine or tea. When I walked over to get a glass of wine, I saw an adorable hat that Michele knitted to go with the baby jacket that she made for baby Slade (still love that name!). It was resting on a gourd that was baby-head sized. Too cute!
Francy was knitting a Christmas stocking – non-traditional colors – using the pattern that Leslie knitted last year. It’s a great colored block pattern with embroidered embellishments. Linda was helping her with a chain stitch. It looks great. Francy is also still knitting a sweater for her son-in-law. Another Christmas present, I think. Christmas is in the air!
Mary was knitting a hat with her lovely alpaca yarn which she really, really loves (as attested to by the photo):
I brought another hat just like the one I knitted for my son, Eli. This one is a Christmas present for my brother-in-law, Jim. One present down…ALL the others to go. Well, at least I’m thinking about Christmas!
Deb is on a roll with hats lately. She showed me the pattern that she’s using. I was confused until she explained that she isn’t knitting the intricate pattern, but she is using the earflap part of the pattern. Oh. OK. Anyway, when I think about how tentative Deb was with her first knitted project, I feel so proud of her now. Deb! You’re knitting HATS! Can socks be far behind?
Michele was knitting a sleeve on her beautiful, fluffy blue sweater. Leslie, the famous hand model, stepped in and offered to model the sleeve. We all wonder who belongs to the other hand in this photo? They don’t look like they belong to the same person, now do they? Nevertheless, Leslie the famous hand model came through once more with a fabulous showing. Give yourself a hand, Leslie.
Leslie also told us a leeetle more than we needed to know about her fascination with ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ Is it the stumbling celebs who may or may not improve over the season? Is it the three snarky judges: the over-the-top Italian, the old fogy, the Asian bitch? Is it the music and enthusiasm of the audiences? No, no, no. There’s only one thing that makes Leslie tune out her husband and put on mental blinders when her favorite show comes on.
Yes, sports fans, a dancing, semi-naked man is what does it for our Leslie. Julie agreed too (with a little drool at the corner of her mouth).
Linda and Carol were looking at a pattern book and found something that was interesting (perhaps to them more to the rest of us). It was one of those ‘you had to be there to see it’ moments but I thought I’d include their observation anyway. After the Max photo, nobody is going to be paying attention to the rest of the blog anyway, right? (Drool). They found a photo of a cute little dollie that they thought looked like our Jules. You can make up your own minds. I kind of agree with them.
I have to tell you that Julie was not particularly cooperative with this comparison. But, we all must suffer for our art…er, my art. Julie was still working on her shawl, hoping that she wouldn’t run out of yarn before the pattern was complete. I hear ya, sista. It’s hell to run out of yarn prematurely.
Lisa joined us. We’re always glad to see Lisa. I think she likes to come to take a break from studying for her Masters. Study and work, work and study. Sometimes a gal just needs a glass of wine and knitting lunacy, right, Lisa?
Well, this week’s blog was a little disjointed, but so was I! Or is that double-jointed? Anyway, we were a crazed group this week and hopefully we will be crazed again next week when we go to Marylane’s house. Keep those needles blazing! Only two weeks until Turkey Day!
