Leslie’s house – April 8, 2010

The Castoffs met at Leslie’s house in a spring blizzard.  The wind blew around us but we were snug in Leslie’s living room looking out at the horizontal snow.  We all hated to leave, so we talked, knitted and ate brownies which are everyone’s cure for winter blues, right?

Eating lots of brownies = curing winter blues

We were SO GLAD to see our two wandering knitters again.  Marylane was finally back from Arizona after a very long time and Francy was back from Minnesota and Washington state and another place that my mind can’t recall.  Anyway, it was a lot of fun to catch up on what they had been up to.  Marylane is knitting a hat.  She needed some stitch markers so I tossed her a little plastic box of them…that went rebounding off of her chest and into her tea.  Splash.  Welcome home, Marylane.

Cute hat, soggy stitch markers

We all agreed that I couldn’t have done that toss again on a bet.

Francy finished her grandbaby’s sweater with some adorable howling doggies. Love the look!

Grrr. Arf, arf, arf.

Francy is also making her daughter-in-law a hoodie sweater with great cables going up the sleeves and down the back.  Very pretty!

Great cables!

We all loved the color which is a little mossier and greener than the photo shows.  Francy made copies of the pattern for those of us who want a challenge.  Thanks, Francy.  We’ll miss you for a couple of weeks when you leave AGAIN for Minnesota.  She’ll be making crib bumper pads for the coming grandchild.  Aaaah!  We’ll see you in May.

I received an email from our Colorado friend, Linda, who is in a knitting group down there.  She sent a photo of a ‘thick and thin’ shawl that a knitter is making for bridesmaids in her daughter’s wedding.  Sounded so much like what our Leslie is doing that I thought I’d show it off for Linda.  Then I’ll show the fifth scarf that Leslie is knitting for HER daughter’s bridesmaids.

Linda's friend's shawl

She used a more heavily textured look than Leslie’s and on a bigger scale.

All this thick and thinning is making me think about spring and lightweight wear.  In the meantime, this is what I’m working on – my boucle’ top-down sweater that is coming along pretty fast.  I like something simple that I can knit at night in front of the TV and this pattern is quick and easy.

Just add sleeves and it will be a sweater

Michele finished her rainbow socks and they look great.  This is the same ‘Magic Loop’ pattern that she and I have used before.  She made a change to rib pattern all the way up instead of using the cable pattern on the top of the foot.  Either way, it’s a pretty quick pattern and makes a great pair of socks.

Cool colors, Michele!

Carol is still working on her baby blanket for Grandbaby #1.  She found out that this baby is a boy and the blanket will be just right for him.  Love this pattern.  Most of us have used a similar one for dishcloths, but it is perfect for a bigger project.

Hey, baby! This will keep you warm

My husband, Lucky, found a knitting blog that we both thought was interesting and that the Castoffs might like.  I’ve added the link to our blog (silverroseknitting.wordpress.com) and we can see what’s going on in someone else’s world of knitting.  Next week we’ll be at Julie’s house!  Yay!  It’ll be great to see our Juliette.  Until then, keep those needles moving!
