Julie’s house – April 15, 2010

We met on Tax Day at Julie’s house.  I, for one, was glad that I got mine in the mail on time…barely.  Anyway, Julie had a lot of tasty, healthy veggies and dip for us that we all enjoyed.

Pretty colors. And crunchy too

I know that I always like to show what we eat and drink.  It’s such a pleasure to be welcomed by food and wine or tea at our gatherings.  Thanks, Castoffs!  We had a rather mellow, subdued meeting.  I think everyone got a lot knitted.  I did, although I got my pattern mixed up (too much wine?) and had to go home and rip out a little.  I’m on a 1×1 rib stitch using a boucle’ yarn, so it’s difficult to see the different stitch.  Michele said that she could see it from her perspective and that made me feel better.  I’m at the end of the body and will start on the sleeves next.

Love the feel...glad it's an easy stitch

Julie’s son, Nate, walked in and suffered the penalty of all men who enter the room where the Castoffs gather.  We thrust needles into his hands and blogged him.  Hah!  Take that, male knitters.

Not quite as confused as his expression implies

Julie was working on a dishcloth – always a good project when you need something easy to work on while thinking through life’s problems.  We all long for that mindless busy-ness for our hands when our minds are otherwise engaged.  Knitting is great for that.  I love to have a hard project when I want to be challenged, and an easy project when I want to float along and think – without thinking about what my hands are doing.

I looked over at Leslie and had to take a photo of the quiet domestic scene on the couch.  Leslie was working on bridesmaid ‘thick and thin’ scarf #5 for her daughter’s wedding party.  Julie’s kitty was drawn to her like a magnet.  Kitty would have been happier in Leslie’s lap, but that wasn’t in the cards, eh Leslie?

Looks like Leslie was imagining claws in the yarn

Michele joined us before she had to go to a meeting at her bank.  She wasn’t thrilled about leaving, and we tried to call her to give her an excuse to bug out, but her phone was turned off.  Michele!  We tried!  She was working on a square for the project that her home base class is working on.  Michele taught them to knit and they are working on an afghan to give away to charity.  She was helping them by throwing in a few extra squares.

Mary, Mary quite contrary (not really…I just really like that rhyme) was there after gallivanting around all over the country for two weeks.  Welcome back, Mary!  She took her polar bear scarf to Spokane with her but didn’t work on it very much, according to her.  Guess she just needed the motivation that she gets from the Castoffs.  Leslie was a little confused about which end of the scarf Mary had completed.

Uh, it's his head...I think

Head’s up, Mary.  Or in this instance, head’s down.  We had a lot of fun, as usual, and will meet next week at Marylane’s house.  Summer’s coming and soon the Castoffs can move outside to decks and yards to enjoy the beautiful sunshine that we all yearn for here in the great frozen North.  Until then, keep your needles moving!
