Knitting at Michele’s house – March 1, 2012

The Castoffs met at Michele’s house, eagerly looking forward to more of the cake that Erica baked for us at Marylane’s house.  Well, it did not disappoint.  Chocolate with peanut butter frosting.  Yum.  We at it so quickly that when I rushed into the kitchen to get a photo, it was half-gone already.

Uh, where did it go?

Michele was nearly finished with the skirt that she started for Erica last week.  She is on the casing for the elastic waist, but she asked Erica to wiggle into it over her clothes.  Of course, with the circular needles at the top, it wouldn’t go on without dropping a whole lot of stitches, so she held it up in front of her to give us the idea.  It’s going to be so cute.  Erica is leaving soon – back to her life in Utah – and wants to take the skirt with her.  Or wear it on the plane!  Bon Voyage, Erica.  We’re so glad you are well enough to go home!

She probably won't wear this many clothes under the skirt.

The big news of the day was from Leslie.  She had received a mysterious message from the local yarn shop that she had a package waiting for her ???  She couldn’t imagine who would have left her a package.  At first she thought it was one of us ‘dodos’ (or words to that effect – just see if we ever leave her a gift at Camas Creek yarn shop!)  But we dodos all shook our brainless, extinct little heads.  She went down and picked it up.  Anonymous!  She took it home, opened it and THAT’S how she found out that she is going to be the grandmother of a little girl!

Pink, pink, pink!

Her daughter had had her test earlier and this was her surprise.  Being Leslie, after screaming and crying, she got right to work on the enclosed pattern and yarn and started a tiny little cap.

Awwww!

Congratulations, Leslie.  We can’t wait to see just what you whip up for your granddaughter before (and after) July.

Francy brought the basket for our ‘Loud in the Library’ donations and Julie was quite attached to one of them.  She liked it so much, I think she’s going to make one for her sister.  It is very ruffly.

Better check the basket, Francy and Marylane, in case something goes missing.

Julie was knitting some house slippers for the basket and asked our advice about placing some decorative buttons on the back.  After we gave it to her loud and clear, Leslie modeled one of the slippers.  So now you’re a foot model as well as a hand model, eh Leslie?  And a darn good one, too.

Those needles might get in the way, but otherwise very fetching.

I finished and brought a pair of mittens and a matching hat for the basket.  I love this hat pattern!  I’ve made several of them for gifts.  Fun to knit and fun to wear.

Ready for the basket.

Marylane is back!  Her husband, Dick, injured his shoulder and they had to cut their trip short, so she’ll be here for the ‘Loud at the Library’.  Sorry, Dick!  She is still working on the thick house slippers for herself.

Those are gonna be some big slippers.

Francy was having a leg issue – apparently she hauled around her granddaughter too much on one hip over the Christmas break.  It’s pain well worth the price, however.  She is going to see little Grace some more next month when she will be babysitting for a couple of weeks.  Better take lots of pain-killers, Francy.

I'll just take a little break, Okay?

Linda is hoping to finish her pink shawl by next week.  I get the feeling that she’s a little tired of working on it.  Is that right, Linda?  She looks happy though.

Just happy to be nearly finished? Couldn't be the company, could it?

We talked about taking another road trip this summer and the consensus seems to be that we go to Eureka.  Eureka has a little yarn shop and a great restaurant for lunch.  Sounds like a plan to me.  We had so much fun last summer on our road trip to East Glacier.  We’ll see if we can top it.

Deb joined us a little late.  Great to see you, Deb!  Still knitting that beautiful lilac vest and coming right along.  The color is gorgeous.

Hey there, Deb!

As I sit here at the computer, the sun is shining brightly outside and it is nearly fifty degrees.  Woohoo!  Spring is in the air!  Next week we meet at my house.  Hope Carol feels better and I think Mary will be back.  It’s been a month since we’ve seen her although she has kept us posted with wonderful photos of her hikes in Arizona.  Until we meet again, keep those needles blazing, Castoffs, and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts.
