There were a LOT of Castoffs at Marylane’s house this week. Marylane kept bringing chair after chair into the living room to accommodate all of us. In addition to the Castoffs, Lisa walked down from the next block and Cy came over to get his mittens felted…the mittens that Michele knitted him, that is.
Marylane served us tea, wine and little appetizers that were cherry tomatoes stacked with basil and mozzarella cheese. Yumm!
Leslie was doing her part in enjoying the tomato appetizers. She couldn’t stop eating long enough to show me her rug square that she’s knitting, so I just took a photo of both her activities.
Francy brought the felted bag that she made for her sister. We saw her knitting it this summer at Michele’s house and were glad to see the finished product. Francy knitted the handle into the bag which is a great idea for strength. Then she just winged it on the colors of the pattern itself. I loved the button so I took a closeup of it.
Francy also brought along a baby hat that she finished for her granddaughter, Grace. It’s a huckleberry hat! Purple with a perfect huckleberry leaf on top. Very cute.
Carol and Julie sat knitting on the couch. Carol is knitting her first pair of socks and so far, IT is fabulous. I got an exclusive sight of sock on foot and here it is…
Must have been a sock sort of day, because when Linda came in, she was working on socks too. And, she brought me a copy of a basic sock pattern that I’m going to try. I have sock yarn that my sister-in-law gave me a couple of years ago when I was sock-resistant.
Speaking of sock-resistant, two of our group have vowed NEVER to knit socks. I know it isn’t because they’re double-pointed-needle-impaired…well, maybe Mary is…but we’ll see if Mary and Francy stick to their word about socks.
Mary joined us but left her knitting at home. This is what she did during our gathering:
To her credit, Mary did email me a couple of photos of projects that she’s finished knitting. Both projects got mailed off to Italy to her daughter, Larissa. The famous polar bear scarf is for Larissa and the baby hat is for a friend of Larissa’s. Mary is NO LONGER the knitwit of the bunch.
Julie was knitting dishcloths this week. Very colorful, Jules.
Deb came in and is still working on her hat using Mocha Plus yarn (that is so soft and pretty!). I still would love to make something from this yarn.
And me? I finished my blue boucle pullover sweater, but it is so fluffy and warm that I’ll have to wait until cold weather to wear it. I tried it on and it does fit. Yay!
Michele and Cy and Marylane were in the basement for most of the meeting felting Cy’s mittens. They turned out beautifully and I think Cy was pleased with the results.
We had fun this week and after the meeting broke up, a lot of us went to the local art gallery for a showing of wilderness-inspired artwork by Leslie’s husband Jim. It was a fun time, too!
Next week we’ll be meeting at Carol’s house. In the meantime, keep those needles blazing, Castoffs, and careful of the pointy ends!
