Marsha’s house – October 21, 2010

A small group of us met at my house on a sunny, cool afternoon.  All of the teacher-types were off enjoying the two days off that they had this week.  Can’t say that I blame them.  The four of us that gathered had a great time, though. We talked and laughed, ate and drank and knitted some too.  I made cherry-berry scones (from a mix – don’t be too impressed) and fruit.  Our wine was a sweet Moscato and an old vine Zin.

Scones and fruit and wine...oh my

I almost forgot to take a photo before we decimated the scones.  Yum.

Julie whipped up a pair of socks during the week and modeled them for us.  They are made from Paton’s sock yarn and are very pretty.  It was a basic pattern and very quick to knit.

Stripey socks!

Sometimes it’s best to bring something easier to knitting, like another dishcloth!  So that’s what Julie was working on.  You know, what with the talking and drinking, the drinking and talking, it’s hard to concentrate.  Her dishcloth is of the ball-band pattern in cotton.

Dishcloth!

Marylane brought her beautiful sweater that she is working on, and she is now kniting the right side.  We advised her to order more of the red color so the stripes will match when the sleeves are joined.  It is going to be a great sweater.

Right side!

Linda joined us and is working on a shawl with tassels.  The pattern is an afghan pattern that Linda halved to use as a shawl.  I love the color.  I believe that she is using a washable acrylic.  Sorry that I can’t remember all the yarns!  Talking and drinking, drinking and talking, you know.

Tassels all around!

I have knitted all of the pieces for my brother’s alligator, but I haven’t assembled and stuffed the gator yet.  I still need to cut out eyes, tongue and feet to attach.  And I need some stuffing.  He may look like a gator, but he’s only skin right now.

Empty gator!

I began knitting a hat for my son, Eli, out of some great wool that I bought on sale at Camas Creek Yarn Shop.  I had intended using this yarn for my husband’s earflap hat, but it wasn’t chunky enough.  It is working up well for Eli’s hat though.  I used size 13 needles and, boy, is it fast knitting!

Eli's hat!

Although Mary wasn’t at the meeting, she sent me a photo of the hat that she knitted for her friend’s baby.  Mary ripped out the hat because it seemed too small (even for a little infant head) and reknit it in one day.  That night, she got a call that the baby had come early – a BOY instead of the girl that Mary was sure of.  Fortunately, the hat is a unisex lime green.  Now Mary will just attach a ‘manly’ button (car, truck, etc.) instead of the crocheted pink flower that she had planned.

Manly hat!

We had so much fun that we all decided to meet early next week for supper.  I hope some of the other Castoffs will join us.  I think we’ll have a great time.  Next week we’ll meet at Michele’s house and get a tour of the new Scamp trailer that she went to pick up this week.  I don’t think it’s big enough for all of us to knit in, unless we sit on each others’ laps.  I’m looking forward to seeing it anyway and seeing the other Castoffs who we have missed in the last couple of weeks.

Until then, keep those needles blazing and keep your yarn dry.
