A smaller group of Castoffs met at Deb’s house on a cloudy day that hinted at rain or snow, but spring is definitely in the air. The snow melted at Deb’s house and flooded her basement, but her husband Glenn was TO THE RESCUE with a sump pump. During our gathering, Glenn came in and happily announced that the sump pump was working on its own! Woo-hoo! We were glad to hear it and so was Izzy, the Yorkie, whose short little legs don’t like the water out in the yard.
We all gathered around the kitchen counter and talked and ate crackers and dip and drank wine. Glenn passed through once and said “Hey, I thought you were supposed to be knitting?” Oh, yeah. We adjourned to the living room and pulled out our knitting.
Mary is practicing cables on a dishcloth and she’s doing a great job. I like these cables. Wonder what she’ll move on to next that will include cables? She isn’t sure what she wants to do for a project – springtime does that to a knitter. It’s time to start something lighter and brighter, eh, Mary?
Francy is working on the hooded sweater for her daughter. She has finished the back and one front and is working on the other front. Looks great. More cables!
Linda is starting a prayer shawl, but she was trying to work out what pattern she wants to use.
I’m toying with doing a lace shawl, but I want to buy some lace yarn in Scotland when I’m there in September and start it on the flight home. Now, I just have to find the perfect pattern. We are all in search of the perfect pattern, aren’t we? I think we all have a fat notebook full of perfect pattern wannabes that just don’t make the cut. I am always downloading or copying a pattern ‘just in case.’
Deb is already thinking about her next project – a top-down sweater for Glenn. She is closing in on the finish for her lace vest and it looks great.
When I think back to a year ago when Deb was struggling with her first scarf, I feel so proud to have witnessed the growth of this knitter! Good job, Deb.
While we knitted, Izzy gave hint after hint, but we just didn’t pick up her little toy and fling it as often as she would have liked. We were just too busy talking and knitting. Sorry, Iz.
I’m making headway on my shrug. It’s very soothing to just knit and purl and not have to think about a complicated pattern. I like mindless knitting once in a while…
We missed several of our members who were planning to be at the library fundraiser tonight: Marylane, Leslie, Carol. Linda and Francy and I went over there after knitting and had a great time. Good food, good drinks, good company and good cause. Next week is spring break and we’ll be a small group again. Small but fun! We’ll be at Linda’s house and can catch up on everyone’s projects again.
Until then, keep those needles blazing and stay dry! Rain is in the forecast. I’ll leave you with a shot of Francy and Mary deep in conversation about something very important, I’m sure.
